At the beginning of my functional medicine journey, it was recommended that I complete a food sensitivity test. The phlebotomist removed what felt like 900 vials of blood, and three weeks later I was able to see my individual reactions to over 80 different foods. Much to my dismay, I was reacting to almonds at the time and had to give up all almond-based products (almond milk, almond cream cheese, almond butter, straight up almonds). I followed a strict vegan diet before transitioning to the functional medicine diet and developed a love for these almond-based products; it was so tough to remove them all!
Almost a year later, I am thankfully able to eat almonds and almond-based products again. It’s a good thing – my FAVORITE almond product manufacturer FINALLY created a plain, unsweetened, artisan almond milk yogurt.

Kite Hill’s mission to “make truly great tasting plant-based foods that are better for you and the environment” is certainly accomplished with this product. In terms of nutrition, we’re talking 140 calories, 13 grams of fat (2g saturated), 0 grams of sugar, and 6 grams of protein in one 5.3 ounce serving. *As a comparison, Chobani Plain Whole Milk yogurt is 130 calories, 6 grams of fat (4g saturated), 4 grams of sugar, and 13 grams of protein for an equal serving.
Kite Hill plain unsweetened almond milk yogurt is dairy free, soy free, gluten free, and vegan made with non-GMO almonds and live cultures (healthy gut!), not to mention no preservatives and no artificial colorings.
Kite Hill also sells flavored almond milk yogurt options, and while these flavors are also delicious, fruit flavor comes with added sugar. I was so excited when Kite Hill finally started offering an unsweetened plain option. The unsweetened plain yogurt is only sold in a 16 ounce container (3 servings) and it retails at my local Whole Foods for $5.49 (though, often is on sale for $4.99). I am seriously considering buying a case to take advantage of the 10% case discount, but 12 containers seems like quite the challenge…

That Pegan Life’s Yogurt & Oatmeal Parfait
- 1 serving of Kite Hill Artisan Almond Milk Yogurt (unsweetened, plain)
- 1/3 organic apple, chopped
- 1 serving of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
- 1/2 cup gluten-free oats
- Optional: 1/4 cup Maple Pancake Paleonola
- Optional: 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
This yogurt parfait – overnight oats hybrid is my favorite recipe to date. Combine the yogurt, apple, collagen peptides, and gluten-free oats together, and then let sit in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Add any of your favorite toppings (mine are currently paleonola and hemp seeds), stir, and enjoy.
This is my favorite post-workout snack lately! I had to continuously redirect my thoughts away from Kite Hill oatmeal and back to my breathing in yoga today – seriously! Maybe I could handle the case of 12…
